WFTU RADIO KICK OFF

By Brandon Laxton

WFTU Radio hosted its annual kickoff party on Thursday, September 26th, from 8-10 pm in the Downbeat. This year’s theme was “Back to the '90s,” where students dressed in their best outfits from the decade and listened to throwback hits spun by FTC’s very own DJ Billo.

The evening kicked off with food and refreshments, followed by a welcoming message from Matt O’Leary, General Manager of WFTU. O’Leary thanked everyone for attending the party and introduced both the returning programs and new launches, wishing everyone good luck for the start of the semester. The party was a great opportunity for new and established radio personalities to come together to share their shows ideas and make new connections.

Starr Fuentes, President of the Radio Club, said, “I’m so happy that we’re having another radio kickoff party. It was a lot of fun. So many freshmen came out because they wanted to network and get their shows broadcasted. I’m so excited to see what everyone does with their shows.”

The party would not have been the same without the music provided by DJ Billo and Petey Beatz. Students took advantage of the nostalgic hits by taking it to the dance floor and bustin’ some moves. The attendees clearly enjoyed themselves and were consistently engaged. One of the many tracks played was Smash Mouth’s, All Star, which had everybody in the room singing together and enjoying the moment, contributing to the positive attitude and high energy the entire night.

At the end of the party, DJ Billo expressed his joy for being able to provide life to the party, saying, “I always love to play music for everybody, especially the people here at Five Towns College. I love to see the happy faces of everyone dancing along to these ‘90s throwbacks. It was awesome.”

WFTU Radio is broadcasted on the 1570 AM station as well as other streaming platforms such as RadioFX, TuneIn, and Mixcloud. The station also offers a variety of daily shows by both students and faculty running all hours of the day.

WFTU will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday, October 3rd, from 12-4 pm outside the radio station

to honor College Radio Day. Stop by to purchase a WFTU shirt and grab a free donut. All proceeds will

go towards funding the station.
